Annualized
Case Detection Rate for New Smear Positive Cases
Is the number of new smear-positive tuberculosis
cases registered for treatment per 100,000 population. In India, the estimated
incidence of cases is 75 New smear-positive cases per 100,000 population per
year. The global and the national target is to detect at least 70% of the total
estimated cases - i.e. 53 cases per 100,000 per year.
-
Proportion of New Sputum positive out of Total New Pulmonary Cases
In a well performing area, 50% of
all new pulmonary cases would be sputum smear-positive (infectious, confirmed
in the laboratory) case, i.e. there will be no more than approximately one
smear-negative case for every smear-positive case. This proportion however
should not be less than 45%.
-
Smear
Conversion Rate
Percentage of new
smear positive (infectious) patients who are documented to have become
non-infectious (smear-negative) within 3 months of starting treatment. In a
well performing area, a conversion rate of at least 85-90% will be achieved.
This indicator is reported one quarter (4-6 months) after patients are
registered for treatment, and applies to every patient started on treatment,
without exceptions.
-
Treatment
Success Rate
Percentage of new
smear positive patients who are documented to be cured, or to be successfully
completed treatment. In a well performing area, 80-85% of patients will be
successfully treated. The global and national target is to achieve and maintain
85% treatment success. This indicator is reported 13-15 months after patient
are registered for treatment, and applies to every patient started on
treatment, without exceptions.
